Observations, Service Innovationboltbus
So whats the big deal with Boltbus. Well, its a cool concept from Greyhound to capture a piece of one of the most heavily traveled bus routes in the USA. Boston to NYC has seen a flood of low cost bus companies willing to shuttle people back and forth for price around 15 bucks. I have typically taken the “Chinatown” bus called the Fung Wah which is typically reliable and runs routes and buses every half hour to hour depending on bookings. When I heard about Boltbus, i intially cringed due to my previous bad experiences on greyhound. Boltbus is the hipper version of the bus line is offering service innovation of some sorts. By providing free wifi and variable pricing from 1 dollar up to 20 one way, they are a cut above other bus services in the Boston and NYC area.
I decided to test it out and was pleasantly surprised ($2.50 round trip). The bus was new and clean. Free wifi is comparable to providing televisions (like Jetblue). It keeps customers occupied and makes the time fly. Another thing I noticed is the wifi seemed to reduce the cell phone conversation that usually happen on these buses (another huge plus). Kudos to Boltbus! but with rising gas prices I would have liked to see a diesel hybrid bus!
